Hand Over Fist - Self Titled

Hand Over Fist - Self Titled
Genre: Punk
Year: 2001
Format: CD-R

Tracklist:
01. From Genesis
02. Stars
03. Behind Pristine Walls
04. Feeling Just Fine
05. Affinity
06. Greetings

Lineup:
Tatton White - Guitar, Vocals
Taylor Maddox - Drums
Randy Schulte - Bass

This is, to the best of my knowledge, HOF's only release. Propagandhi-meets-Fugazi inspired punk, you can definitely hear where Tatton was going with his songwriting in regards to the Red Robot songs. These guys played a lot of local shows, and I wish they had done more, as they were totally awesome.

32FPS - Self Titled

32FPS - Self Titled
Genre: Punk
Year: 2007
Format: CD-R

Tracklist:
01. Operation Society Deconstruct
02. World War Z
03. 06-66084
04. Autopilot Off
05. Take a Hike
06. Feeding Frenzy
07. Religion is Dumb
08. Misdiagnosed
09. Black Sheep [nerve agents]
10. Unbreakable

Lineup:
Earl Carrasco - Bass
Curt Baer - Vocals
John Spurr - Drums
Josh Owens - Guitar

32FPS started as a project meant to span a two month period. Earl was back in Redding, albeit temporarily, and we wanted to do a band in that short amount of time. The idea was to write a demo, book studio time, record, and play a few shows in 2 months before Earl left. We did that, but Earl didn't move, so we kept it going for a while. This is the demo we produced, written and recorded in less than a month and with a not-too-subtle tip of the hat to Kid Dynamite.

Undercover Savants - 1995 Demo

Undercover Savants - 1995 Demo
Genre: Punk
Year: 1995
Format: Cassette

Tracklist:
01. Ska #2
02. Cheese in the Attic

Lineup:
James Pecis - Bass, Vocals
Brett Eastman - Guitar
Andy Sasson - Drums
Aaron - Vocals, Horn

UCS recorded these two songs in 1995, splitting studio time with Utility. This was only a few months after I was asked to leave the band, they told me they didn't need 2 guitar players and that I was "too good of a player" (haha) for this type of punk and I'd be better off in a band like Utility. Interestingly a few days later I got a call from Mat asking me to join Utility. Conspiracy I say! After I switched bands, they added a different vocalist to sing the more hardcore influenced songs who also played some sort of wind instrument, maybe the clarinet? He's on track 2, James sings on track one. In any event this is the recording that was made that day, and I still like it a lot. This was my first band ever, and as far as I know the first Straight Edge band redding ever had (we started in 1994, when we were called "Idiot Savants" and got a ton of shit from everyone in the scene for being straight edge, including getting 9 volt batteries and master locks upside the head while we played). Pretty silly to try and rip off FYP, OpIvy and YOT and try and make it work, but these were some of the most rad times I had learning how to be in a band, book shows, make flyers, etc. This never came out to the best of my knowledge, so like the Utility stuff, I made cover art out of flyers. I have a VHS of our 2nd show (w/ the Struggle Buggies and Utility at the Milleville Grange), we played a ton of songs and the sound quality is pretty good, I'll rip the audio and put it up here someday.

Utility - 1995 Demo

Utility - 1995 Demo
Genre: Punk
Year: 1995
Format: Cassette

Tracklist:
01. October Fifteenth
02. Oops
03. Meatheads
04. Number One Song

Lineup:
Mat Calderon - Bass, Vocals
Nate Payne - Guitar, Backup Vocals
Sean - Drums
Curt Baer - Guitar

In late 1995, Utility and Undercover Savants (my current and ex bands, respectively) split time at the Filibuster studio in Sacramento. Engineered by the drummer for Pocket Change (I think his name was Kirk?) we did this 4 song demo. I had really just joined Utility, I think I'd been in the band for only a couple months and only played one or two shows, though Utility was a staple to nearly every redding show at the time (along with 3 Out Of 4). We broke up within a few weeks of recording, and this was never released. The art I have up here (and on the Band Practice Demo) I made from an old flyer, but it never had real art as it never came out. Mat once jokingly told me that this was his "Fat Mike" phase, but I really like this recording nonetheless, it sounds real good and is fun to listen to.

Utility - Band Practice 1995

Utility - Band Practice 1995
Genre: Punk
Year: 1995
Format: Cassette Source

Tracklist:
01. Quality
02. Hoodrat
03. Untitled
04. Cleanup

Lineup:
Mat Calderon - Bass, Vocals
Nate Payne - Guitar, Backup Vocals
Sean - Drums
Curt Baer - Guitar

This was a tape I made of a Utility band practice in early 1995 so I could practice along at home, and I'm glad I did because as far as I know it's the only time these songs were recorded. There are no vocals on this recording, it was made with a boombox. "Hoodrat" later became a Blockbustaz song. "Cleanup" was my favorite Utility song but I remember it being vetoed on account of it being "too aggressive." There's actually a lot on this tape, a whole side of a TDK 90min, but I only ripped the songs that weren't on the demo and only the best takes at that. There's some pretty hilarious banter on this tape including "I heard the Routies are gonna get beat up this weekend", and other outlandish stuff, maybe someday I'll rip all that and put it up here under Genre: Comedy!

Yak Saddle - Whereabout Demo

Yak Saddle - Whereabout Demo
Genre: Punk
Year: 1994
Format: Cassette

Tracklist:
01. Hell Station
02. Sympathy
03. Daydream
04. Realization
05. Footprints
06. Gut Feeling
07. Bonnie

Lineup:
Jason Allen - Bass, Vocals
Mat Calderon - Drums, Vocals
Jeremy - Guitar

Yak Saddle was probably one of the first punk bands I ever saw live, back in the Rico's Pizza days. I remember seeing my first circle pit sitting on the tables there. This demo is well recorded and the tape itself held up a lot better than others I have, there's hardly any hiss or the swooshy static from warping that plagues my other tapes. Needless to say, this is a personal fave and it makes me feel 16 again to listen to it.

01. We're Smart... Yup
02. Necromantic
03. Full Moil
04. Further Instructions
05. Left Out
06. Sorry About the Mess
07. Battle of the Network Stars

17. Small Things
18. Shake the Blame

Lineup:
Chad Allen - Guitar, Vocals
Jason Allen - Guitar, Vocals
Shaun Bell - Bass, Backup Vocals
Chris Bristow - Drums
Jim Lund - Drums

Released on Bucky Records and the band's own Minimum Wage Records, this CD compiles the best of 3/4 from 1994-1999. The "Revenge" demo sessions, tracks 1-6, represent what I think is the best recording they would ever lay down and the re-recorded songs have never sounded more awesome. All in all, a lot of bang for the buck, with selections from "Life Stinks", "Old School in Dog Years", and the s/t 7 inch as well as some more re-recorded tunes and what I think is a Bucky comp track, this makes a great introduction to 3/4, as I imagine the goal was with this release.

3 Out Of 4 - Toids 'N' Pee

3 Out Of 4 - Toids 'N' Pee
Genre: Punk
Year: 1994
Format: Cassette

Tracklist:
01. Taxi Luv
02. Up a Pole
03. Cans O' Gasoline [out of spite]
04. Shake Da Blame

Lineup:
Jason Allen - Guitar, Vocals
Chad Allen - Guitar, Backup Vocals
Shaun Bell - Bass
Jim Lund - Drums

This is 3/4's first tape. I got this version from Chad in like 2004, as he remixed and remastered it on 4 track. The Out of Spite cover totally rips, though I think my favorite from this tape is Up a Pole, mainly because they didn't re-record it, most their songs got re-recorded a handful of times.

Genre: Punk
Year: 1995
Format: Cassette

I never actually got a copy of this tape, but they put it at the end of the Double Zero Tape so here it is. The art I have been using for it is from the inside of the 00 Tape as well, if anyone has the OG tape and can get a better rip and a good scan of the liners that would be awesome.

3 Out Of 4 - Old School in Dog Years

3 Out Of 4 - Old School in Dog Years
Genre: Punk
Year: 1995
Format: 7"

Tracklist:
01. Staring Problem
02. This Life

04. Kids Live Alone
05. Held Down
06. Butt Rock Outro

Lineup:
Jason Allen - Guitar, Vocals
Chad Allen - Guitar, Backup Vocals
Shaun Bell - Bass
Jim Lund - Drums

This was one of the first 7"s I ever got. I remember thinking that 3/4 was the best thing ever, they really had their shit together, I mean they put out a 7 inch, my band was just barely considering recording. In retrospect, it's still as awesome, not many local bands at the time were putting the effort into doing a real 7" and this record helped pave the way for the younger kids, like us. Totally sweet record. This was the last 3/4 release that J. Allen was singing on.

This is another one of my favorite releases to ever come out of Redding, I played the hell out of this record on my crappy little 45 player. Admittedly, this hits a lot harder straight from the vinyl than the mp3s do justice to. I've also heard this referred to as "The Arizona Seven inch", as I believe they released it when they were relocated to Arizona. The "Limited Edition Collector Cover" insert has "Kill yourself and those who question you! Be true to your skool" written on the back. I have no idea how many were pressed but it seemed like everyone had the "limited" version, I got mine at a Millville Grange show.

04. Necromantic
05. The Fuzzy Buzz
06. Kill or Be Killed Then Die
07. Midnight in the Lincoln Bedroom

10. Twenty-two Shits in Eighteen Days
11. Iceberg Right Ahead
Lineup:
Chad Allen - Guitar, Vocals
Shaun Bell - Bass, Backup Vocals

I got this tape at Bog Bean sometime probably around 1999/2000. For a live recording the sound quality is suprisingly good, better than some of their studio recordings. There's a couple songs on here that weren't on any other 3/4 release that I know of as well (tracks 7 and 10), all in all an awesome tape.

Format: CD-R

Tracklist:

02. Of Mice and Men
03. Chingaling Hop
04. Move it Over
05. Umpteenth Jerk

Lineup:

This Punk band featured dudes from 3 out of 4. I think this is an early-ish demo, this release sees them still in form to the later 3/4 style.
